Banning of Image Beside Adsense Ads, Is there a solution?

10:37 am Miscellaneous Stuffs

Since google have finally made it’s stand on banning images or thumbnails beside adsense ads, many, I think were affected specially their earnings. I’m not an exception and honestly I was also affected after I removed the images on my adsense ads. I’m now researching the best format that will not be against the adsense TOS. So is there a solution?

I’ve found a site that mentioned about using video from YouTube beside adsense and they have guaranteed a 100% CTR. But when I looked at the date, it was november 2006. I don’t know if this is still in line with the TOS because the adsense blog that bans the usage of images was posted on Dec 18, 2006. So it’s better to ask adsense team first before implementing this technique. This is where I found the site:

Video Beside AdSense Ads to Improve CTR

Another technique which I have experimented myself is placing an animated border on the left side of the ads ( See Below ). Just like the images, the only intention is for the visitors to notice the ads, and as much as possible to eliminate ad blindness. This is how I implemented the images before, not to deceive the visitors thinking that the ads are navigation links of my site but just for the visitors to notice it.

But somehow some ads might be related to the images and produce accidental clicking and this is the time that the TOS is violated. As much as possible, I want to avoid placing any images although the adsense blog doesn’t totally ban images. They said we as publisher should “make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors.”

Who knows, eliminating the images and discovering new ways might produce better results!

I’m not sure if my technique now will comply to the latest guidelines but come to think of it it’s not only us publishers who were hurt. Even google. If we have less earnings, so will google. Just to protect the welfare of advertisers, google have to implement a more strict rules for a long term strategy to have more advertiser trust and confidence to adwords.

I myself will also do this sacrifice for a long term goal. If I publish directly to an advertiser for example, I can use a deceiving tactics but for how long? And also, it is really hard for us small publishers to get advertisers. We should be thankful that google adsense arrived. Trust binds any organization, customer to seller, employer to employee and so forth. So always think “LONG TERM GOAL”. And I think that this is always and will be for webmasters: Content is King! Relevant content produces relevant ads, and relevant ads produces more clicks.
