Butter-Bread Pudding

Ingredients:

1        cup butter
1        large loaf of sliced American bread
1-1/2 cups sugar
1/2    cup water 2 cups milk, diluted 10 egg yolks

 

How to make Butter-Bread Pudding

  • Remove crust of bread. Butter bread generously on both sides.

  • Place in large flat container, one layer only. Mix egg yolks and sugar in a bowl.

  • Heat milk to a high temperature and pour slowly into egg and sugar mixture.

  • Mix thoroughly until sugar is dissolved. Pour mixture over buttered bread slices gradually.

  • Let stand for 10 minutes, then turn over bread and let stand again.

  • Make caramel (sugar and water) and place immediately in the bottom and sides of a long pyrex.

  • When caramel is cold, place bread in pyrex dish (4 slices each layer).

  • Bake in 350 degrees F for 1-1/2 hours. Cool and turn over on a platter.

  • Yield: 20 servings.
